How to set up VPN on Chromebook

In this tutorial we will show you how to set up VPN on Chromebook but first let’s see what are our requirements and recommendations.

Requirements

In order to set up the VPN you will need:

  2. Your VPN username, password and VPN server address. You can find them in your account on our website, by going to Settings.

  1. Sign in to your Chromebook.
  2. Click the menu icon and click on “Settings” (1).

  3. On the Settings page, click on “Add connection” (2) then click on “Add OpenVPN / L2TP” (3).

  4. Enter the following information:

    Server Hostname: [the IP address of the CactusVPN server you want to connect to].
    You can find all the available servers in your account on our website, by going to Settings.

    Service name: [the name of the VPN connection, for example “CactusVPN”]

    For “Provider type” choose “L2TP/IPSec + preshared key”

    Preshared key: cactusvpn

    Username: [your VPN username].
    You can find your VPN username and password in your account on our website, by going to Settings. Make sure you use your VPN username and password and NOT the website account credentials (What is the difference?).

    Password: [Your VPN password]

    Click “Connect” (4).

  5. You should now see a key (5) near the VPN connection. That means that VPN on Chromebook now is connected.
