Choose the Windows version you want to set up VPN on
Setting up a VPN on Windows is about as easy as it gets, due to the overwhelming popularity of the operating system; there is no shortage of VPN programs about. The question is though what is available and how?
All five VPN protocols supported by CactusVPN are available on Windows so PPTP, L2TP, SSTP, OpenVPN and SoftEther. Windows has native support for PPTP, L2TP and SSTP, that means that there is no need for any additional software.
OpenVPN and SoftEther both require the use of their own software to function on Windows but both work well. OpenVPN GUI as the software is called is most certainly aimed towards advanced users due to the lack of any sort of interface (despite the name). Everything must be changed within config files. SoftEther’s required software works fantastically well though, with a well-designed interface that even the most novice of user could navigate with ease.
